Product Description

The Rogue CB-4™ 38MM Camber Bar was developed in collaboration with Westside Barbell, and made its public debut as the “Double T” Bar at the 2022 Arnold Strongman Classic (nick-named in honor of the late Dr. Terry Todd). The goal with this design was to build a curved / bowed specialty bar suited not only to the world’s top powerlifters and Strongmen, but athletes of every size and ability level. To get there, we started with a series of different prototypes–of varying diameter, bend angle, and knurl pattern–and sent them all over to the least compromising focus group in the iron game: the athletes at the Westside Barbell Gym. Through their repeated testing and direct feedback, we were then able to determine which specs best delivered all of the key benefits we were looking for.

Rogue CB-4 38MM Camber Bar

Design Intent:

  1. A bar that takes pressure off of the shoulders and elbows, allowing athletes with flexibility issues or injuries to continue to squat heavy.
  2. A bar that accommodates the size of the strongest competitive and at-home lifters, giving them room to place their hands wider apart than a standard barbell.
  3. A bar that allows athletes to increase their range of motion when benching while, again, keeping undue stress off of the shoulders and elbows.
  4. A bar that enables athletes to build strength with less weight . . . specifically, by providing the optimum drop between the center of the bar and the sleeves, the athlete is forced to keep the lower back tight in the squat, resulting in a stimulus greater than that of the same weight on a straight bar.
  5. A bar that does not bounce at high weights of 900 LBS or more, reducing safety risks.

The solution was the CB-4 Camber Bar, a 60LB, 38MM curved power bar with a 4.4” drop and a substantial 55” wide bend, giving athletes of every size the ability to find a point on the curve that works for them. In addition to allowing more hand placement flexibility, the extra 9” of distance between the sleeves also ensures that–on most racks– the cambered portion of the bar won’t flip down when unsupported.

The 95” shaft of the CB-4 is machined at our Columbus factory with our power bar knurl, then precision-bent by one of our local partners and finished with a Black Cerakote coating for excellent corrosion resistance and a firm grip. The rotating sleeves are friction welded and machined in-house and given our new proprietary matte black finish, which is the best in the industry for extending the vibrancy and longevity of the color. Once assembled, all bars are individually tested and assessed for quality before shipping out. This includes ensuring that each sleeve is straight, within an angle tolerance of +0.5 / -0.0 degrees.

*Please Note: The optional Proprietary Matte Black metal treatment process also hardens the steel, which can cause some additional friction with plates that have a chamfer.

Key Features of the CB-4 38MM Camber Bar

Put to the Test at the Arnold Classic
1

Put to the Test at the Arnold Classic

This bar made its public debut as the “Double T Bar” (in honor of Dr. Terry Todd) at the 2022 Arnold Strongman Classic. In the Maximum Squat event, it handled extremely heavy loads up to 966 LBS, proving it had no limitations even at the highest levels of competition.

Developed with Westside Barbell
2

Developed with Westside Barbell

Rogue worked with the team at Louie Simmons’ legendary Westside Barbell to test and refine the CB-4 Camber Bar, giving their athletes a wide range of different bar diameters and sleeve spacing in order to identify the specs that would best achieve our central goals: reducing stress on the shoulders and elbows; enabling greater flexibility in hand placement; improving safety on heavy lifts; and allowing athletes to build strength with less weight.

Greater Strength Gains, Less Weight
3

Greater Strength Gains, Less Weight

By providing the optimum drop between the center of the bar and the sleeves (4.4”), the curved design of the CB-4 Camber Bar forces the athlete to keep their lower back tight in the squat, resulting in a stimulus greater than that of the same weight on a straight bar.

All Local Construction

All Local Construction

The CB-4 38MM Camber Bar is machined and assembled at the Rogue factory in Columbus, Ohio, with additional precision bending of the shaft provided by one of our local partners. We used our standard power bar knurl (with center knurl) for a firm grip, and the rotating sleeves are friction welded for a bond as strong as a single piece of steel. The 38mm diameter bar weighs 60 LBS unloaded and features 16” of loadable sleeve length with an angle tolerance of +0.5 / -0.0 degrees. All bars are backed by a Lifetime Warranty.*

Always Finish Strong
5

Always Finish Strong

The bar’s shaft features a Black Cerakote finish; this is a ceramic-based coating first widely used in the firearm industry for its remarkable durability in thin applications. Few finishes offer better corrosion resistance over time. For the sleeves, we used our equally robust proprietary matte black finish, which greatly extends the longevity and vibrance of the color far beyond traditional barbell finishes.

Good… but not worth the price.
I buy a lot of rogue products. Most of the time they are great. If The quality isn’t what I expect or would want from Rogue, Customer service is usually pretty good about taking care of it. I bought the CB4 because I wanted a thick camber bar to squat and bench with. And that’s exactly what it is. HOWEVER, The fit and finish on this bar just stinks. Like many others have said, this could be a boneyard bar. The bar is thick. The knurling is nice even with the cerakote finish. But the indents on the bar from the manufacturing process, take away from the Rogue experience. Yes, they say that there will be some marks in the Description of the bar. And they aren’t in the way of any place you would touch or use the bar and don’t take away from the grippyness of the knurl. But I have seen boneyard bars that had less damage than this bar. AND THE SLEEVES SUCK. Can’t say it any other way. Tight tolerances. Looks like a rainbow on your bar if you use calibrated plates. Just not nice. Not worth the $560 shipped to your door. $200 cheaper and I’m not complaining. But for the price, this bar only gets 3 stars.

Camber feeling is superb, I love the float...
This camber bar feels so luxuriously ergonomic that it mimics wings. I smile everytime I use it! It's great out on the patio or doing lunges across the yard. Like a great pair of skis, this is fly.

Mixed, solid bar with some annoyances
I have had this bar for a few weeks, and it definitely helps my shoulders when squatting. It's extremely well-built, as well. But the knurling is ridiculously aggressive, and the sleeves are too thick. Also, it does want to slide and tip with only one plate on the bar, so be mindful when loading and unloading. I would rate this as 3.5 stars due to fighting to get plates off while trying to keep it from tipping.

Should've bought this a year ago!
I've been looking at this bar online since they announced it last year. I put it in my cart and went back and forth on whether I should order it or not. I had the Titan Yukon bar and didn't use it much because it would tip over when I loaded a plate on one side. The CB-4 doesn't do that. It's rock solid. It did have a small scuff on the one end of the sleeves when I unboxed it, but not a big deal to me. I have a set of Rogue Urethane plates and a set of Rogue Deep Dish. They both slide on and off the bar without any issues. Some reviews stated plates wouldn't slide on, but mine has no issues. I've used this bar on every squat day since I got it about a month ago. I love the camber and the 38mm thickness is very comfortable on the back. Used it for bench presses as well. If you're considering this bar, just do it. It's awesome!

Great bar, but rough around the edges.
I purchased this bar after exclusively using a Rogue Ohio bar for bench and squats. The bar does what it says on the tin: back squats are more comfortable, my wrists are in a more neutral position during bench press, and the larger diameter bar makes the press feel better in my opinion, and I look forward to exercises where I get to use it more than I used to. One thing to note is that it is fairly long. I was not able to store it in my Rogue 9 bar holder so it waits in J cups at the top of my rack. The reduction in stars for this review comes primarily from my opinion that the execution of this bar doesn’t meet the quality that has been delivered by other Rogue products that I’ve purchased in the past. Examples of this are pictured, but include dimpling and gouging of the bar stock itself, inconsistency in the knurling, and chattering sleeves. The bar does its job despite these issues, but I’m left wondering what keeps this from being a boneyard bar. If this had been delivered with a lower tier manufacturer nameplate on the end caps (and their generally lower price point) I probably wouldn’t be as picky, but given that I like most people, purchase Rouge products for their functionality, ruggedness, AND aesthetic this one missed the mark for the price of $495 plus shipping for me.

Super solid
I bought this for my training studio and it's been great. It is a very good bar. Notes: Very aggressive knurling and 38mm is thicker than I expected. I had to get a bar holder because it's too long to hang with my standard-size bars.

Rogue CB-4 Review
I went to the Rogue store to look at this bar and made the decision to buy it. Customer service was excellent, they took their time to show me the bar and worked to get the order processed quickly while I waited. This is quality bar, I am very impressed with it. I have tried overhead military press, benching and squatting with the bar. Some people have noted that it is difficult to remove plates from the bar, I had no problems with that. My first new barbell, the knurling is very noticeable, but not in a bad way. I like using this barbell for squatting, since it takes pressure off of the shoulders.
