Rogue Loadable Kettlebell

Made in the USA from 1.25” diameter solid steel, the Rogue Loadable Kettlebell can be used with virtually any standard 2” Olympic Plates, as well as our Rogue Dumbbell Bumpers. The effect is to re-create the versatility of an entire rack of traditional KBs in one simple, portable 10.25 LB unit.

A wire lock pin is included to safely lock the handle piece into the base sleeve, which offers 6” of loadable length. That same base sleeve can also be inserted into an Atlas stone, enabling the use of the handle for stone lifts or custom concrete kettlebells. For this reason, we’ve made the sleeve portion available to order a la carte, as well, for customers who want to configure multiple stones / concrete KBs but only need one handle.

Each Loadable Kettlebell is hand-forged by Lockhart Ironworks and hand-stamped with Rogue branding. Some users may wish to use an axle collar (sold separately) to help secure plates on the sleeve for a better feel when in use.

If you already have olympic weights and are limited on space, this is a great and affordable alternative to buying individual kettlebells.

Pleased with loadable kettlebells
The idea of plate-loaded kettlebells appealed to me because it solves some challenges of mine and maybe yours as well such as… like I don’t have space for a whole set, I’ve never swung a kettlebell in my life, and do have enough old-school iron plates to use with them. So, if you are considering getting one or a pair, perhaps my experience will help you decide if this is right for you. Bottom line up front, I’m pleased. They work fine. For swings and presses and snatches… all good and the plates don’t wreck my forearms when lifting up high. I take issue with Bro. Coop on these, I like them, and I recommend them. I bought two sets. Each includes a 1-1/4 inch handle with 0.40 inch holes for adjustment, a base sleeve (I calipered and both are 1.91 inches diameter), and the tube is welded to a 3.75 inch base plate, and you get a 3/8 inch round wire lock pin to secure the handle to the sleeve. For faster plate changes, I may switch out for a 3/8 inch quick-release T-handle pin, but the ones provided work fine. With no plates added, one weighs 10.36 lbs and the other 9.79 lbs (that’s a half-pound of difference on a 10 lbs item, just sayin’ but more on that below). Also, at no extra charge, I was impressed by the amount of soot I got on my hands from the shop floor – yes, they took some cleaning, so be careful when you first open the box. Before I bought them, I read some reviews which universally shared customers’ disappointment that the base sleeve is not a two-inch barbell diameter, so my 2” Rogue-logo bar collars won’t work. Drag! Turns out, Rogue manufactures these base sleeves using 1.9 inch tube, used in their Axle bars, and so I ordered a set of the Rogue HG 2.0 Axle Collars, and I find that they firmly secure the plates, even when vertical. I’d recommend that those be shown as an option when purchasing. Now to the disappoints, 5 things, and all improvable, and no - not worth returning or fussing over them, but here they are: 1) I’ve mentioned the soot, which was fixed with some brake cleaner, a wire brush, some paper towel, then Rust-Oleum matte black for the sleeve and high gloss blue for the handle/pin, and what a pain, and now… no soot and they match my blue Monster Lite. Secondly, was the slop -- that space between the interior of the sleeves and the handle – it clanked around when did my first ever kettle bell swings, and the fix there was some spare padded bicycle handlebar tape that reduced the gap and killed the clank, and looks cool too. Third was a shop floor Q.C. disappointment for me: the base sleeves… one tube has a thicker wall than the other, one measures about 0.19 inches thick and the other is about 0.13” thick, the lighter one weighs 2.20 lbs and the other 2.64 lbs., and I appreciate using what you have in the shop, but product consistency is kinda why a lot of us pay that premium for USA-made products like Rogue’s. Lastly, minor to me, but disappointing was that one handle was shaped and welded dead-on straight, and the other was distorted. In fairness these are thick pieces of tube stock, lots of heat and high pressure bending, but still - the one that is perfectly straight is evidence Rogue can bend and weld them true. Fifth, is just a head-scratcher: when you put a plate on the sleeve and it falls to the bottom, the plate rests on weld of the tube meeting the 3-3/4 inch round base plate of the sleeve, and the plate never actually touches the base plate itself, in fact, you’ll see a gap if you look, but the weld has even concavity and the plate appears to seat fine when I swing it. Five stars.

Buy once, cry once.
I tried to go the cheap route and bought 3 different “adjustable” kettlebells off of Amazon first, I ended up returning all but 1 that my wife likes. The price and versatility are on par. The grip is a little narrow, but if you plan on only doing swings and farmers carries this is the way to go.

Had to modify, but works well
As mentioned in other reviews, the plates are on the loose side when mounted. I was able to fix this by adding two layers of 2" shrink tube to the holder post. Now, if anything, it's more snug than ideal, but better than before. I also had to cut away material for the securing pin holes, but no big deal. Standard clamps are too small after this fix, so I went with a worm clamp a the top of the plates stack instead,
