SteelBells®

Hyperwear’s SteelBells are roughly half the size (per weight) of their counterpart, the SandBell, but they pack twice the dynamic punch – utilizing tiny balls of steel shot, rather than sand, as their filler material. This patented design combines the best features of dumbbells, kettlebells, medicine balls, and sandbag training . . . working your core, challenging your grip and stabilizer muscles, and pushing your stamina.

Each SteelBell is constructed from extra-thick neoprene with a textured surface for grip improvement. Sizes and weights range from 5LB to 125LB, providing the total range necessary to continually step up weight training requirements.

SteelBell vs. SandBell

The density and size per weight is the biggest difference between the SteelBell and the lower-priced Hyperwear SandBell. For example: a 9” diameter SteelBell weighs 10LB, while a 9” SandBell weighs just 4LB. Similarly, a 125LB SteelBell is the same diameter as a 50LB SandBell. The steel shot inside the SteelBell also moves around faster than sand, with more dynamic, almost water-like shifting inside the bell. Due to the combination of inertia and the shifting steel shot, a 20LB SteelBell feels and responds like a much heavier weight – sort of like the difference between picking up a sleeping child and one that is flailing. This shift challenges balance, coordination, core response, and stabilizing muscles, simultaneously.

Although the SteelBell is twice as dense as the SandBell, it is still extremely safe for all ages and will not damage floor surfaces. It makes for a great kettlebell and medicine ball replacement because you can swing or throw the SteelBell with maximum effort without fear of injury to yourself or others. No more worries about hitting knees or ankles or jamming a finger.

Sturdy and relatively safe
Been using it a few times a week for over a month now. Stitching is solid. Good overall size for it's weight of 75 lbs, not too large. And because the steel balls move around inside, it is a relatively safe option to use by myself. I do overhead presses from my chest and bring it back down fairly hard, without worrying about bruising. If you've not used these types of steel bells before, keep in mind that they take a considerable amount of finger grip strength. But the stuff you can do with these verses kettle or dumb-bells is worth it to add variety. They aren't core to strength training, but more of a secondary equipment. I've used the 30 and 40 lb variants before and was ready to upgrade to this one.

still holding up
What ever the warranty is on this I'm sure I broke it from day one and it is still holding up. I'm trying to break it open to see what kind of candy is inside.

Hyperwear SteelBell 75 pnds.
I like it a lot. Fantastic training tool and multi purpose for hundrends of various style exercises. For all those kung fu fans out there this is a great training tool for Chin Na kung fu based on the dvd by Wing Lam called "Chin Na methods and tools. The steel bag is used as one of the 72 consummate arts of the Shaolin Temple. You can watch it for free on youtube for instruction of the training of the chin na bag. Also I like to use it when lying on my back and press it with one leg, similar to a pistol squat but lying down instead. If you got a 125 to 200 pounder great for 1 or 2 legged push while lying down. Trains you for strength and stabalization at the same time. For that 200 pounder though you'll need somebody to help rest it on your feet before pressing up and down or find a improvized way to do it. Other than that the skies the limit what you can do with the steelbell training tool and it's so multipurpose and that's why I like them cause you can challenge yourself in a multiple variety of ways. Thank you and GOD Bless Rogue. :)

Ten Years & Still Holding Up
I have had these Steelbells for about 10 years in weights of 5, 10, 15, 20 & 25 lbs. During most of that time I have used them outside on every kind of terrain: sand, dirt, rocks, gravel, asphalt. They are showing some signs of wear, but are so well broken in now that I like them better than new ones. I always carry a couple in my car just in case I have an emergency "need" for a movement snack.
